The Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey are located just off the coast of France on the edge of the English Channel and are a British Crown dependency. The Bailiwick of Guernsey consists of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm, Sark and Jethou. Guernsey, with its capital St. Peter Port, is the second largest and most cosmopolitan of the Channel Islands.
A visit to one or more of the islands makes for a perfect vacation, either for a short break, or during an extended tour of the UK.
This is England, with a French flavor! The local language may be English, but the islands were once a part of Normandy, so many of the place names and roads, as well as the food are decidedly French.
A short 40 minute flight from London's Gatwick airport, the islands have charming accommodations, excellent dining, fascinating historical attractions, and duty-free ports at St Helier (Jersey) and St Peter Port (Guernsey).
These peaceful islands extend to all visitors a friendly welcome and a sophistication combined with simple pleasures. You will find delightful hotels, sandy beaches, woodland and cliff walking paths, fine restaurants, sports activities and fascinating museums/sites connected to the German occupation of the islands during WWII.
Ferries take you easily from one island to another. A visit to the tranquil island of Sark where horse drawn carriages transport you around the island (no vehicular traffic allowed) is a splendid day out to enjoy its lovely gardens, wild birds and spectacular scenery.
YOUR ACCOMMODATIONS: Choices range from Country House Hotels to 3 or 4 star small hotels/bed & breakfasts selected in charming locations either in the capitals or dotted around the islands.
